Challenge

Record levels of capital investment have fuelled growth in the UK rail industry. On the surface this is welcome news, but the reality of delivering the UK’s multi-billion-pound railway upgrade plan has sparked a skills shortage that is currently unsustainable.

Programme

In partnership with rail industry recruitment leaders Morson Vital Resourcing, Cidori has developed a needs-based rail track safety and NVQ training programme to equip this growing sector with a fully qualified, multi-disciplined workforce. In December 2018 we rolled out a Personal Track Safety (PTS) rail training initiative in Manchester resulting in 100% employment of trainees.

Cidori’s dedicated teams across the country work with some of the most difficult to engage learners to remove barriers to employment, thereby ensuring a continuous route into the rail industry for a wide range of would-be rail track management professionals. Following our training, skilled workers are available to start immediately on national rail, underground and metro system projects.

Results

From the PTS programme:

  • all learners completed an induction process
  • all learners successfully passed medical requirements, including drugs and alcohol screening
  • the PTS Course was passed by 20 of 21 learners (that learner to re-sit)
  • 100% Employment – all 20 learners now have evening/weekend shifts and have been interviewed for upcoming full-time contracts
