O’Neill & Brennan
Meeting the demand for skilled new labour in the construction industry is a challenge well understood by construction recruitment specialists O’Neill & Brennan. With increased labour requirements and stringent Section 106 stipulations, house-builders have to find, attract, recruit AND train local people into their workforce.
Fortunately, an innovative partnership between O’Neill & Brennan and Cidori is ensuring that local construction firms in the West Midlands are able to plug these local recruitment gaps and benefit from a continuous skills pipeline.
Construct a Career is a pilot scheme in Birmingham that joins up Cidori’s needs-based Introduction to Construction Skills training programme with O’Neill & Brennan’s specialist recruitment services.
The programme attracts, trains and recruits new workers. It provides them with their CSCS card and finds them a suitable position with genuine career opportunities.
Birmingham was a deliberate location for the Construct a Career pilot as the city exemplifies the recruitment challenges faced by the construction industry. Birmingham is the focus for huge investment, translating into a buoyant construction sector. It’s also an area of high unemployment.
Our Birmingham pilot with O’Neill & Brennan has already resulted in 20 newly trained, CSCS card holders, ready to join the sector in the West Midlands.
As we implement further courses in partnership with O’Neill & Brennan, Cidori is confident that Construct a Career will continue to deliver site-ready new workers, equipped to take their first step towards a career of real opportunity.
“Of the three companies that form the Construct a Career programme, it’s our partner Cidori that has been instrumental in helping to fill our first training course. Working with job centres and colleges Cidori is able to effectively target areas of high unemployment close to local construction projects.”
