According to recent findings by think tank “The Resolution Foundation” there could be as many as 1 million people still on the Government’s furlough scheme when it ends this month.
This follows the HM Treasury ONS Business Insights and Conditions Survey (BICS) statement 29 July 2021 with estimates that between 1.1 and 1.6 million people were then still on furlough.
It’s hard to believe that approximately 11.6 million jobs (Statista.com) have been placed on furlough during Covid-19.
Clearly, a significant number of those still on the scheme will be entering an already challenging job market in October – reports we’ve seen indicate record numbers of vacancies and staff shortages – and we’ve all experienced the fall out of this first-hand at the pumps recently.
