Record levels of capital investment have fuelled growth in the UK rail industry. On the surface this is welcome news, but the reality of delivering the UK’s multi-billion-pound railway upgrade plan has sparked a skills shortage that is currently unsustainable.
On track with bespoke training
In partnership with Rail industry leaders Ganymede and Morson Vital Resourcing, Cidori is delivering a needs-based rail track safety and NVQ training programme to equip this growing sector with a fully qualified, multi-disciplined workforce.
Partnerships like this are designed to ensure a continuous route into the rail industry for a wide range of would-be rail track management professionals. Following our training, skilled workers are available to start immediately on national rail, underground and metro system projects.
Sustainable job opportunities
Cidori has many years of experience in coordinating the national delivery of pre-employment training, working with a number of with industry leaders like Ganymede and Morson Vital Resourcing to get people back into sustainable work. The success measure of every one of our partnerships rests on getting the right people into the right jobs at the right time.
Our particular partnerships model also means that industry partners can engage with candidates that may previously have been unable to access their chosen industry. Cidori has dedicated teams across the country working with some of the most difficult to engage learners in many socially deprived areas. Our aim is to help remove barriers to employment, working within local communities to bring skills training to those who need it most.
Together with our strong track record of NVQ delivery, these collaborations are set to provide increasing numbers of well-trained people for these rapidly developing sectors.
Careers on the rails
One such partnership was our December 2018 PTS rail training initiative in Manchester, pictured here, with our partners at Morson Vital Resourcing.
The following outcomes were achieved:
- learners completed an induction process including full explanation of the criteria for working on Rail
- all 21 learners passed medical requirements, including Drugs/Alcohol screening
- PTS Course was passed by 20 learners (one learner will re-sit)
- 100% Employment – all 20 learners now have evening/weekend shifts and will be interviewed for full-time contracts for 18 months commencing Feb 2019
Cidori works with a number of large colleges across the country, delivering to an Ofsted Level 1 standard. Since May 2018 we have helped over 500 learners through rail provision training and some 200 learners per month through the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) for those wishing to work in the Construction sector.
Candidates for all these courses are unemployed, over 19 years of age and in receipt of either Universal Credit or Job Seekers Allowance. Our partnership allows us to highlight areas of the country that have a skills shortage. Once this is profiled, the Cidori team will engage with relevant agencies in that region and get people the training and job opportunities they are seeking.
